No two projects are the same, which is why each project is measured, priced and ordered to suit each situations needs. While most glass is standard panel sizing, custom panels are required in some situations like staircases, unusual height requirements or just personal preferences. In these cases we custom make templates onsite to send to our supplier to ensure maximum accuracy to achieve the overall desired look.
We liaise closely with all our clients on every aspect the the project to make sure we're delivering a product that can be enjoyed with no regrets for years to come.
Our glass panels are all measured and ordered to suit each individual project. Toughened glass is always used in our frameless and semi-frameless balustrade and pool fence systems to ensure safety requirements are met. Thickness of the glass is assessed on each individual project. All glass Canberra Glass Surrounds uses is supplied by trusted suppliers and comes stamped with safety labels to ensure the glass complies with Australian Standards: AS-1288:2021 - Glass in Buildings, AS/NZS-2208:1996 - Safety Glazing Materials in Buildings, AS 1926.1-2007 - Swimming Pool Safety - Safety Barriers for Swimming Pools and AS1926.2-2007 - Swimming Pool Safety: Location of Safety Barriers for Swimmings Pools
All hardware used on our projects comes from suppliers who's products are certified to pass current Australian Standards. Glass spigots come in a vast range of shapes and sizes, each style being suited to certain applications. Colour selections are made available by Canberra Glass Surrounds at the time of appointment, as each project has different requirements to suit safety needs or to achieve the desired aesthetics.
Gates are an important feature on glass pool fence, which is why we only use the highest quality hinges and latches around our pools. Self closing, soft closing hinges are used to ensure the pool area remains safe at all time, as well as the soft close feature prevents your glass panels and hardware from being damaged under unneeded wear and tear.
Starting May 1, 2024, the ACT Government requires all swimming pool and spa fences to meet current safety standards, regardless of their original construction date. This change aims to curb the rise in serious injuries and deaths related to pools in the ACT.
Homeowners have until May 1, 2028, to complete any necessary updates. Key requirements include:
Barrier Height and Non-Climbable Zone: The fence must be at least 1.2 meters high and have a non-climbable zone of at least 90 cm to prevent children from climbing over.
Gate Specifications: Gates must be self-closing from any open position and self-latching, with the latch mechanism located in such a position to meet Australian Standards.
Barrier Maintenance: Homeowners are required to ensure that pool barriers are maintained in good condition, with all doors and gates providing access to the pool kept securely closed when not in use.
Disclosure Requirements: Homeowners must disclose the pool's compliance status when the property is sold or leased.
Applicability: The new rules apply to all home swimming pools and spas that can contain water to a depth greater than 30cm
Compliance certificates will be required to confirm adherence to these standards.
